Sorry I haven’t posted in a long time. I have been VERY busy with my content writing business and it’s taken up most of my time. Although the money is nice, it takes time away from working on my niche sites and my income there has slipped a bit.
Back to the point of this post…
Surf around the internet for just a few minutes looking for ways to make money and very quickly you will find plenty of people claiming that you can make tons of money in a very short time. While there may be ways to do it, most aren’t sustainable over a long period of time. If you want to jump in, make a few bucks and move on, then some of these schemes may work.
However if you want to build a good, long-term affiliate income you need to do 2 things:
Choose A Long Term Niche
Plenty of people jump on the bandwagon of building a site around a hot niche. It seems right now that most affiliates that are doing CPA offers are building Acai diet sites and landing pages. Just like most other diets, these are fads and the science hasn’t been completely proven so eventually they will be gone. Lots of people were capitalizing on Obama’s victory and using his name and image in PPC ads for "free government money". There were some guys making huge money promoting government grants that didn’t exist until of course the Federal Trade Commission stepped in and stopped it. Needless to say, these types of sites will have a short life.
A long term site might be on a niche like shoes or lawnmowers. Maybe not all that exciting, but most likley people will continue to cut their grass for many years and shoes seem to be pretty standard! These are niches that you can build slowing over many years until you have a site that generates a lot of revenue.
Don’t Be Afraid of Hard Work for Zero Return Initially
You’re not likely going to make $1000 your first week in affiliate marketing, although it does happen on occasion. You may have to put in 20 hours per week for a year before you see any decent return. It could be more time, it could be less, but realize that in the beginning that time means nothing. It’s not like a regular job since you could easily spend 100’s of hours on a project before you see 1 cent. Hopefully that changes over time to the point where you are spending little time on a site (maybe 1-2 hours per week) and earning decent money (maybe 500 per week from one site).
I don’t think that affiliate marketing is rocket science. You don’t need to be overly smart or even that technical. I know very little about html, php or databases, but I know enough to get by.
